How set off a sharing bike boom in foreign countries

2018-04-24 17:51:04
Cycling trips as a means of transport for health and environmental protection have won popularity in many countries. In foreign countries, the public bicycle rental system has developed rapidly.Faced with various problems, various countries in the world have already proposed various solutions.

Paris,France: Vélib

The Paris public bicycle rental system Vélib (combined from French "Vélo" and "Libert" liberté) was established in 2007.It is the only public transport project in France that earns a stable net income for the city, with an average annual profit of up to 2 Ten million euros.

However,Vélib also faced difficulties in its early development.Initially, bicycles were destroyed or stolen. The action of sabotaging bikes often occurs.
In the end,Vélib encourages people to return bikes to designated locations by giving them a “free way to spend time”.In addition, the low price of Vélib is also the key,its annual fee for adults is only 29 euros, much lower than the bike rental prices in other European and American countries.

New York,USA: Citi Bike

Citi Bike was founded in 2011,which is a project of the New York City partnership with Alta Bicycle Share, sponsored by Citibank. The first phase of the operation invested 6,000 bicycles, built 332 stations and more than 11,000 parking spaces. In the early days of its establishment,Citi Bike received a lot of praise. In the first month of operation,it received 400,000 members.

However, the project also encountered various difficulties. For example, frequent software failures, lack of parking spaces, and high pricing all caused dissatisfaction among users. The loss of users also led to the loss of the project.

In order to solve these problems,in 2014,Citi Bike replaced the new operating company Motivate, and subsequently improved the software technology system of the entire Citi Bike project. In 2015,Citi Bike added 2,400 new bikes to meet demand. In order to improve the user experience, they also improved the body design of new bikes. In 2016,the project began to build 139 new stations in Manhattan and other places in an effort to meet the needs of users.

London,United Kingdom: Santander Cycles

The Santander Cycles,a public bike project in London, was set up following the Parisian Vélib. There are 400 bicycle stops in major areas of central London, with a total of more than 6,000 bicycles parked. The rental of rental bike is 2 pounds per day and is free for the first 30 minutes. The government hopes this will encourage everyone to ride a bike when they are on a short trip or when they go to and from work. The project is also equipped with a convenient mobile phone application.Users can not only check the location of the bike through the mobile phone, but also can book bike in advance.

However, the Santander Cycles also faced many problems and difficulties. For example, the weather in London was rainy, the traffic regulations were more complicated, the number of bicycle lanes was insufficient, and the requirement to wear a helmet when riding a bicycle led to many citizens not being used to cycling.

In order to solve these problems,London Mayor Boris has decided to build a complete bicycle lane, and even proposed a "bicycle highway" plan, which is to set up a special bicycle lane on the highway to encourage people to cycle to the surrounding cities.

Barcelona,Spain: Bicing

In Barcelona, the public bike Bicing parking spot covers most of the city.Users can use 6,000 bicycles at more than 400 parking spots. As one of the bicycle-friendly cities,Barcelona has more than 180,000 registered users, accounting for about 11% of the city's population.According to statistics, each bicycle is used on average 10 times a day,and in summer or in urban centers,it is used more than 20 times a day.

The difficulties encountered by Bicing are mainly due to problems such as uneven distribution of vehicles during the peak hours of the bikes and the bikes were damaged.

In order to make it easier for users to rent bicycles,Biking has also developed a mobile application that allows users to query the location, capacity, and number of available bikes for each nearby parking spot.In addition, the government also heavily subsidizes the Bicing system and deploys bicycles through trucks to alleviate the problem of uneven distribution of bicycles.

Comparing with the public bicycle systems around the world,China has obvious advantages in sharing bicycles.Although bicycles can be rented in many countries and cities, but users can only rent and return them at specific sites.Sharing bicycles such as Mobike and Ofo that can be rented and returned anywhere, which are obvious advantages and also bring more convenience to users.
